4-6 months: Sleep

Our advice about sleep for babies from 4 to 6 months

Since his first few weeks the distribution of sleep has changed considerably.
Your baby will now sleep 8 to 9 hours in succession during the night. With some exceptions, he no longer wakes for a bottle in the night.
In the daytime, he still sleeps between 1 and 2 hours in the morning and afternoon, sometimes more in the afternoon.
He is now sensitive to ambient light, to the rhythm of the day.

Going to sleep...

If your baby still has difficulty in going to sleep, or if he still does not sleep through the night:

  • help him to make the distinction between day and night by letting your baby sleep with shutters open during the day and closing them at night
  • respect his sleep: avoid waking him as much as possible (even if it is the "normal" time for his meal) and do not interrupt his dreams for the sake of his future balance

Early risers

Some babies wake particularly early. It is useless to put them to bed late, their internal clock is set.
On the other hand, you can place his favourite toys in his bed (if they are not dangerous when asleep): he will find them in the morning and will perhaps delay the time that he wants to get out of his bed.
